Baltimore, MD — Inauguration Day is being marked by frigid temperatures and gusty winds across Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. The National Weather Service reports highs in the teens and 20s east of the mountains, with wind chills plummeting into the single digits due to gusts up to 35 mph.
The extreme cold has already prompted the decision to hold President Trump’s inauguration ceremony indoors rather than outdoors, ensuring attendees’ safety. A few passing flurries may develop by mid-afternoon, though most areas are expected to stay dry.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, temperatures for urban areas, including Baltimore, will hover between 18-27°F at noon. In mountainous regions, highs will remain between 0-9°F. Winds will ease slightly into the evening, but the biting cold will persist.
Cities such as Winchester, Frederick, and Charlottesville are advised to secure outdoor items due to high winds and prepare for rapidly falling temperatures. Those traveling to inauguration events or elsewhere should exercise caution on roads.
Residents are urged to dress in layers, limit outdoor activities, and monitor updates from the National Weather Service. For more information, visit weather.gov or follow @NWS_BaltWash.
