Chicago, IL – Breezy winds and spotty storms could make for a slick commute Tuesday morning in areas south of I-80, but the more widespread rain threat builds later this week across northern Illinois.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, Tuesday begins with a 20% chance of isolated showers mainly south of I-80, tapering off by midday. Winds will ease by the afternoon, and temperatures will fall into the 60s, especially near Lake Michigan.

The next organized system arrives Wednesday, bringing a 40–60% chance of rain and thunderstorms, particularly southwest of the Chicago metro area. Highs will range from the mid-50s lakeside to upper 60s inland. Showers and thunderstorms remain possible Thursday and Friday, with precipitation chances between 20–40%. Overnight lows will dip into the 40s through the end of the week.

Residents near Joliet, Naperville, and Kankakee should prepare for wet roads, especially during commutes. Cooler lake air will keep Chicago proper in the 50s most afternoons, while central and southern counties warm into the 70s. Keep rain gear handy and limit outdoor plans if storms develop.

More seasonal conditions return by Saturday, though scattered clouds will linger. Additional updates are expected as storm timing becomes clearer.
