Chicago, IL – A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect for much of northern and central Illinois from 9 p.m. Monday to noon Tuesday, with wind chills expected to plummet as low as 30 below zero in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Chicago, dangerously cold temperatures will impact Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, Lake, Kane, DuPage, La Salle, Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee, Livingston, Iroquois, Ford, and Cook counties.

Wind chills will range from -20°F to -30°F, with the coldest conditions expected in Rockford, DeKalb, and McHenry. In the Chicago metro area, wind chills will drop to -25°F, making outdoor exposure hazardous.

Frostbite Warning: The extreme cold can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Residents are urged to wear layers, hats, and gloves when outdoors.

Travel Precautions: Roads may become slick due to residual ice, and commuters should prepare for frigid conditions during the Tuesday morning commute.

The advisory expires Tuesday at noon, with temperatures expected to rise slightly in the afternoon. However, another cold front may arrive later this week.
