Chicago, IL – A narrow band of snow is expected south of Interstate 80 today, with slippery road conditions posing challenges for commuters. Temperatures remain bitterly cold, with wind chills reaching as low as -14 degrees, creating hazardous conditions for anyone outdoors.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Chicago, snowfall is concentrated south of the Kankakee River, near US-24, where untreated roads may become dangerous during the evening commute. Drivers should exercise caution and allow extra time for travel. Accumulation is expected to remain light, but even a thin layer of snow can create slick conditions.
By Friday, conditions will begin to improve as skies turn partly sunny with highs nearing 29 degrees. Friday night, warmer air moves in, with rain likely beginning late Saturday. Saturday’s high could reach 45 degrees, bringing a noticeable shift from this week’s frigid start.
The weekend will be marked by a mix of rain and lingering clouds. Sunday will see highs in the low 40s with scattered rain early, but colder temperatures return Sunday night. Monday’s forecast includes more rain with highs reaching 48 degrees, a stark contrast to today’s freezing weather.
Residents are urged to monitor forecasts and prepare for changing road conditions over the next few days. Layering clothing and limiting time outdoors is advised due to the dangerous wind chills.
