Tinley Park, IL – A strong line of thunderstorms is expected to develop late Tuesday night, bringing potentially severe weather to the Chicagoland area through early Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, multiple rounds of thunderstorms will begin forming after 1 a.m. CDT and persist into mid-morning Wednesday. Residents across Cook County and surrounding areas are urged to stay alert for rapidly changing conditions overnight.

The primary threats include hail up to one inch in diameter, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours. The storms are forecast to impact regions mainly near and south of I-80, with increased uncertainty further north.

Officials advise residents to move indoors if thunder is heard and to ensure multiple methods of receiving overnight weather warnings. The severe weather threat is categorized as a Level 2 to 3 across the region, meaning scattered to numerous severe storms are possible.

The active weather pattern continues throughout the week, with Wednesday’s high reaching 67 to 72 degrees before the storms taper off by evening. Additional rain is expected Thursday and Friday.

Emergency managers urge vigilance and preparedness, especially for those with early morning commutes. Keep flashlights and weather radios nearby, and avoid travel during peak storm activity.
