Champaign, Illinois –Storms will hit Central Illinois hard by Wednesday morning, with heavy rain and dangerous lightning targeting Champaign and surrounding counties. Commuters should expect wet roads, reduced visibility, and slick conditions along I-74 during peak travel hours.

According to the National Weather Service, showers will move into the area after 1 a.m. Wednesday, intensifying into thunderstorms after 10 a.m. South winds will increase up to 24 mph, making morning driving potentially hazardous. Rainfall amounts between a half and three-quarters of an inch are likely, with isolated higher totals during storms.

By Wednesday night, another round of showers and thunderstorms is expected before 1 a.m. Thursday. Temperatures will hover in the low 60s, and cloud cover will limit overnight visibility. Motorists and residents are urged to stay weather-aware and secure outdoor items ahead of gusty winds.

Rain chances drop slightly by Thursday, but isolated storms remain possible. Drier air will begin to settle in Friday, bringing a brief window of sunshine before additional showers arrive by the weekend.
