Springfield, Illinois – Scattered thunderstorms could disrupt afternoon travel and outdoor plans across Central Illinois today as cooler, unsettled weather lingers into early next week.

According to the US National Weather Service in Central Illinois, breezy conditions and a 40–60% chance of showers and storms are expected Thursday, with high temperatures ranging from 65 to 75 degrees. Rain chances remain steady through the weekend, with Saturday seeing the coolest temperatures — highs only reaching the low 60s.

Peoria, Bloomington, and Champaign may experience brief downpours and gusty winds during storm activity, particularly in the late afternoon and early evening hours. Motorists should watch for wet roads and reduced visibility, especially along I-55 and I-72 corridors.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and check for lightning safety if attending weekend events. While severe weather is not currently anticipated, daily rain chances could affect parks, farmers markets, and ballgames through Sunday.

Lows are expected to dip into the 40s overnight, adding a chill to morning commutes. The pattern may shift by early next week, but light rain remains possible through at least Monday.

Stay weather-aware and monitor updates, as conditions could change with short notice.
