Chicago, Illinois – Roads across northern Illinois could turn slick again tonight as another round of rain and possible thunderstorms develops after sunset, potentially impacting late-night travel into early Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, showers and a few thunderstorms are expected to expand across the region overnight, with the greatest coverage developing after midnight. While severe weather is not expected, periods of moderate rain could reduce visibility and create ponding on roadways.
The heaviest rain will focus along and south of I-80, but showers will extend into the Chicago metro, including areas along I-90, I-94, and Lake Shore Drive. Drivers should be alert for wet pavement and slower travel during overnight hours.
Temperatures will remain mild Friday night before cooler air moves in this weekend. Saturday will bring breezy conditions with lingering morning showers, followed by a noticeable cooldown. Highs drop into the upper 40s and low 50s by Sunday, with drier weather returning into early next week.
Rain tapers off by Saturday afternoon, but additional updates may be issued if storm coverage increases overnight.
