Chicago, Illinois – Stormy conditions are set to disrupt the Chicago area by Tuesday afternoon, with 88°F heat giving way to strong thunderstorms, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall lasting through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service, a slight chance of storms will develop after 1 p.m. Tuesday, intensifying overnight with a 70% chance of thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Wednesday. Gusts could reach 35 mph as winds shift from the south. By Wednesday, rain chances climb to 80%, accompanied by potential lightning and downpours.

Travel on I-90, Lake Shore Drive, and across Cook County may be impacted by slick roads and reduced visibility. Commuters should allow extra time and avoid flooded underpasses. South and west suburbs, including Cicero and Oak Lawn, could see isolated downpours early Wednesday.

Power outages and flash flooding are possible in storm-prone areas. Residents should secure outdoor furniture, charge devices, and prepare for delays to public transit and flights at Midway and O’Hare airports.

Thunderstorm chances continue into Thursday before clearing by the weekend. Additional advisories may be issued as storm strength becomes clearer.
