According to the National Weather Service, a 40% chance of snow begins after sunset Sunday, with temperatures dropping to around 14°F. Gusty winds could make travel hazardous along key routes like I-74 and I-57, especially during late-night hours. Drivers are urged to use caution and allow extra time for commutes Monday morning.
Saturday and Sunday will remain mostly cloudy with daytime highs near 27°F and 33°F, respectively. While snow chances remain limited until Sunday night, residents can expect wind chills to hover near 0°F. Monday brings a return to sunny skies but bitterly cold conditions, with highs only reaching 19°F and lows falling to 5°F.
By Tuesday, Central Illinois will experience a sharp drop in temperatures, with a high of just 11°F. Overnight lows Tuesday will dip to 0°F, prompting concerns about frostbite and hypothermia risks for those without proper shelter.
The extended forecast calls for gradual warming midweek, with highs reaching the teens by Wednesday and climbing near 28°F by Thursday. Despite sunny skies, wind chills will make it feel significantly colder.
