Peoria, Illinois – Drivers across central Illinois could wake up to slick roads and blowing snow Monday morning as powerful winds whip light snowfall across the Peoria region overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a Winter Weather Advisory takes effect at 10 p.m. Sunday and lasts until 1 p.m. Monday for Peoria, Marshall, Fulton, and Schuyler counties. Snow totals may reach up to 2 inches, but strong winds gusting near 50 mph are expected to blow snow across highways and sharply reduce visibility.
The worst travel conditions may develop during the early Monday commute, especially in and around Peoria, Canton, Lacon, and Rushville. Key corridors including Interstate 74 and Illinois Routes 24 and 97 could see rapidly changing visibility as wind-driven snow moves across roadways.
Officials warn that open rural areas could experience brief blizzard-like conditions, with visibility dropping quickly while snow is falling. Gusty winds may also snap tree limbs or bring down branches, creating isolated hazards on roads and near power lines.
