Illinois Tornadoes Confirmed: Four Touchdown in Central and Eastern Regions on April 2

Champaign, IL – Four tornadoes were confirmed to have touched down in central and eastern Illinois on April 2, 2025, causing minor damage across multiple counties.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the first tornado struck Forsyth in Macon County between 4:36 p.m. and 4:37 p.m. It was rated EF-U, with no damage reported. A second, stronger tornado hit Clark and Edgar Counties near Dennison, where it reached EF-1 strength with winds up to 100 mph. It caused significant damage to eight buildings, trees, and power lines along its 8-mile path from 7:02 to 7:09 p.m.

The most intense tornado of the day was the Cumberland-Clark-Edgar tornado, which spanned 44.62 miles with EF-2 damage and winds of 115 mph. This tornado began in Cumberland County at 6:33 p.m. and traveled northeast, damaging power poles and buildings before crossing into Indiana.

Lastly, a fourth tornado near Jewett in Cumberland County caused roof and tree damage along its 4-mile path from 6:28 to 6:33 p.m.

Fortunately, no injuries or deaths were reported in any of the incidents. The NWS continues to monitor conditions as further assessments are made.
