According to the NWS, central and southern Illinois, including Springfield, could see significant rainfall, with totals exceeding two to three inches in some areas. Flooding in low-lying areas is likely, and travel could be disrupted, particularly near rivers and streams.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and prepare for heavy rains that will continue through Sunday. The NWS warns against driving through water-covered roads and advises people living near flood-prone areas to stay on alert.
Rainfall from the storm will taper off by Sunday evening, leaving behind cooler temperatures as the system moves out of the region.
