Chicago, Illinois – Storms could disrupt Sunday afternoon plans in the Chicago area as showers and thunderstorms build across northern Illinois by 1 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 50% chance of storms starting mid-afternoon Sunday, July 6, with gusts up to 25 mph possible in the Chicago metro area. The most intense impacts are expected along I-55 and throughout Cook and DuPage counties, where localized flooding and brief power outages may occur.

Temperatures will reach a more comfortable 85°F Sunday, but the mix of heat, humidity, and unstable air could spark slow-moving storms. Residents planning to be outdoors should monitor live weather alerts and seek shelter quickly if thunder is heard. Wind gusts and lightning are the main concerns through Sunday evening.

By Monday, skies will clear, bringing mostly sunny weather and a high near 77°F. Tuesday will stay dry with cooler highs in the upper 70s, but rain returns midweek with additional chances for thunderstorms starting Thursday.
