Springfield, Illinois – Scattered thunderstorms could bring lightning and brief downpours to parts of central and southern Illinois through Saturday night, especially in areas south of I-72, including Danville, Effingham, and Mattoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, rain chances remain elevated through Saturday, with a 60% likelihood of storms both Friday and Saturday in the southern portion of the region. While the severe weather threat is relatively low, a few strong to severe storms are possible, especially Saturday afternoon.
Cities like Bloomington and Peoria may only see isolated showers with temperatures hovering between 75 and 81 degrees through the weekend. Meanwhile, areas from Springfield to Lawrenceville are more likely to experience multiple rounds of thunderstorms and gusty winds. High humidity and daytime heating could further fuel storm development.
Residents are advised to monitor local alerts, avoid outdoor activities during thunderstorms, and secure loose outdoor items. Rain chances decrease significantly by Sunday night, with dry, partly sunny conditions expected to dominate early next week.
Rainfall will taper off by Monday, with highs settling near 80 degrees. More updates may follow if Saturday storms intensify.
