Chicago, Illinois – Thunderstorms and wind gusts nearing 25 mph could disrupt travel and outdoor plans across the Chicago area early Thursday afternoon. Rain and storm chances return midday and stretch into the early evening, with lingering showers forecast through Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service, Thursday’s primary threat begins around 10 a.m., when scattered showers and storms could sweep across Cook County and the northern Illinois corridor. East winds will shift northwest by the afternoon, gusting between 20–25 mph. Though severe weather is not expected, lightning and brief heavy downpours could affect drivers along I-55, I-290, and Lake Shore Drive.

Saturday brings brief relief, with partly sunny skies and a high near 51°F. However, cloud cover returns Sunday night, and another round of showers is possible by Monday, especially during the evening hours.

Cooler-than-average spring temperatures will persist through Tuesday, keeping daytime highs in the mid-50s to low-60s. Residents should prepare for wet sidewalks, gusty conditions, and potential brief power flickers from wind or lightning. If planning weekend travel or events, consider packing rain gear and securing any outdoor furniture or displays.

Five-Day Spring Weather Outlook (May 2–6):

  • Saturday: Partly sunny, high 51°F
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny, high 56°F
