Chicago, IL – Snowfall across northeast Illinois today is expected to make untreated roads and sidewalks hazardous, particularly east of I-55. The National Weather Service warns of accumulations ranging from 1 to 3 inches through this afternoon, with slick surfaces causing potential travel delays.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will mainly impact areas east of Mendota and north to Evanston. Motorists should reduce speeds and allow extra travel time to avoid accidents on icy roads. Temperatures will hover around 30 degrees today before dropping to the mid-teens overnight, adding to the risk of freezing.
Looking ahead, Saturday will bring some sunshine and highs near 29 degrees, but colder air will dominate starting Sunday. A wintry mix is possible Sunday afternoon, with freezing drizzle and light snow creating additional hazards. By Monday, temperatures will plummet, with highs only reaching the low 20s and wind chills dropping as low as -15 degrees early next week.
Residents are urged to prepare for dangerous cold by dressing in layers and ensuring exposed skin is covered. Those planning outdoor activities should take precautions against frostbite and hypothermia. For commuters, the week ahead will bring mostly dry but frigid conditions, with highs in the low teens through Wednesday.
