Springfield, Ill. – A stretch of cooler, wet weather is setting in across Central Illinois, with near-daily rain chances persisting through Monday and temperatures hovering well below seasonal norms.
According to the National Weather Service in Central Illinois, scattered showers will begin Friday afternoon and continue off and on throughout the weekend. Friday highs will climb into the lower 70s in some areas, but a sharp cooldown will follow. Saturday through Monday, most communities from Bloomington to Decatur will see daytime highs in the upper 50s to low 60s — nearly 10 degrees below average.
Scattered showers are expected each day, with the highest rain chances on Saturday and Sunday (50%). Overnight lows will dip into the mid-40s, raising concerns for those without adequate heating or shelter. Outdoor plans, including high school sports and local festivals, may be disrupted by the soggy conditions.
Drivers should remain cautious on rural roadways, especially during early morning hours when visibility could be reduced by lingering drizzle. Residents are encouraged to keep umbrellas and jackets on hand and check local alerts for any event changes.
The wet pattern should begin to break by Tuesday, when warmer highs in the mid-70s return. However, additional showers can’t be ruled out later next week.
