St. Louis, MO – Unstable spring weather is taking hold across Missouri and Illinois, with increasing fire danger and potential thunderstorms expected through the end of the week. Residents in the St. Louis area and along major routes like Interstate 70 should prepare for rapidly changing conditions starting Tuesday and continuing into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, elevated fire risk will persist Tuesday, particularly in central and northeast Missouri and west-central Illinois. Dry air, low humidity, and gusty winds may spark fire hazards across open grassland and rural areas. Authorities urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and use caution with machinery that could spark flames.

Beginning Wednesday night, a new system brings a 30% chance of showers to the region, followed by a stronger round of thunderstorms Thursday and Friday. Thursday night carries a 60% chance of rain, with lingering storm activity into Friday and early Saturday. A 70% chance of showers is forecasted for Friday night.
