Quad Cities, IA/IL – Snow showers and strong winds will create travel hazards across Iowa and Illinois through Thursday morning. Residents along major routes, including I-80, should prepare for slippery roads and reduced visibility.
According to the National Weather Service, snow showers are expected to begin Wednesday afternoon and persist into early Thursday morning. Winds could gust up to 45 mph, significantly reducing visibility, especially during heavier snow bands. Although no major accumulation is anticipated, quick bursts of snow may leave a light dusting on roads, creating slick conditions.
Drivers should remain cautious, especially on bridges and overpasses, which may freeze faster. The NWS recommends slowing down, avoiding cruise control, and maintaining a safe distance between vehicles. Evening commuters should anticipate potentially hazardous conditions from 3 p.m. through midnight.
Extended Forecast:
Thursday will remain blustery, with highs near 41°F and another chance of snow showers in the afternoon. Overnight, temperatures will dip to the upper 20s, with wind gusts reaching 40 mph. By Friday, conditions improve slightly, bringing partly sunny skies and highs in the mid-40s.
Looking ahead, Saturday and Sunday will see mostly cloudy skies and temperatures ranging from the mid-30s to low 50s. Dry weather is expected for the weekend, providing a brief respite from the wintry mix.
