Illinois–Iowa, Quad Cities – A soft, warm breeze is already moving across the Mississippi River this morning, and the early calm won’t last long. Temperatures surge quickly today, setting up a sharp swing that could impact travel by Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, highs climb to 84°F today under sunny skies. Winds shift from the southeast to southwest at 5 to 15 mph, with gusts reaching 25 mph. That warmth pushes the region well above normal for late March.

By Sunday afternoon, conditions begin to change. A 20% chance of light rain develops after 1 p.m., with mostly cloudy skies and north winds increasing to 10 to 15 mph. Gusts could reach 30 mph, especially along I-80 and I-74 corridors.

Roads may turn briefly slick during passing showers, though widespread impacts remain limited. Still, drivers should stay alert for sudden wind gusts and changing visibility.

Behind the front, temperatures drop quickly. Lows fall to around 30°F by early Monday morning. Any lingering moisture could refreeze on bridges and overpasses, creating isolated slick spots.

Monday remains cool but calmer, with highs near 52°F and sunshine returning. The pattern steadies into Tuesday with a rebound to 61°F under partly sunny skies.

Midweek brings more clouds and a gradual warm-up, with highs holding in the low 60s. This back-and-forth spring pattern continues to bring quick changes across the region.

Heading out Sunday afternoon? Let us know what conditions you’re seeing along the river or highways.
