Chicago, IL – A tornado watch remains in effect for multiple counties across Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky through Wednesday night as severe storms move through the region. The National Weather Service has issued Tornado Watch 57 and 58, warning of potential tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail.
According to the National Weather Service, Tornado Watch 57 is active until 9 p.m. CDT (10 p.m. EDT) for parts of Illinois, including Livingston, Ford, Iroquois, and Kankakee counties, as well as northwest Indiana’s Benton and Newton counties. Cities under this alert include Kankakee, Pontiac, Gibson City, and Watseka.
Further east, Tornado Watch 57 also includes 15 counties in Indiana, such as Tippecanoe, Vigo, Sullivan, and Montgomery, remaining in effect until 10 p.m. EDT. Communities like Lafayette, Terre Haute, and Crawfordsville are advised to stay vigilant for rapidly changing conditions.
Meanwhile, Tornado Watch 58 extends into Kentucky and south-central Indiana, covering counties including Jefferson, Floyd, Hardin, and Warren. This watch is active until midnight EDT (11 p.m. CDT), affecting Louisville, Elizabethtown, and Bowling Green.
Residents in the affected areas should monitor local weather reports, have a safety plan in place, and be prepared to take cover if warnings are issued. Strong storms with rotation remain possible as the system moves eastward overnight.
