Quad Cities, IL – Dangerous freezing rain continues to coat roads and sidewalks across the region today, creating hazardous travel conditions. Ice accumulation of up to 0.3 inches has been reported, especially along interstates like I-74 and I-80. The National Weather Service warns drivers to use extreme caution and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, freezing rain will persist until late morning, gradually transitioning to rain from south to north. The greatest ice impacts are expected before 11 a.m. as temperatures hover near freezing. Winds gusting up to 30 mph may increase the risk of falling tree branches and localized power outages.

Residents should delay travel if possible and check current road conditions at 511ia.org or gettingaroundillinois.com before heading out. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated sidewalks are especially prone to icing. By afternoon, rising temperatures are expected to bring relief, with rain replacing the freezing rain and ice starting to melt.

Looking ahead, Sunday offers calmer weather with highs near 40°F and partly cloudy skies. Monday and Tuesday bring more sunshine and highs in the mid-40s, offering a break from today’s winter hazards. By midweek, another weather system may move in, bringing chances of rain or snow.

Stay updated on the latest weather developments and check forecasts frequently, especially if you need to travel. With ice accumulation continuing through the morning, safety should remain a top priority for all residents.
