Springtime temperatures are set to plummet in central Illinois, with a freeze warning issued for tonight. Residents in eastern Illinois and areas near or east of I-57 will see temperatures dip to the lower and middle 30s, posing a risk to sensitive plants.

According to the National Weather Service, the freeze is expected to last from 2 a.m. until 9 a.m. Saturday, with temperatures falling as low as 30°F. Clear skies and light winds will exacerbate the chill, creating ideal conditions for frost.

Homeowners are urged to protect tender plants by either bringing them indoors or covering them to prevent frost damage. The cold conditions are expected to affect much of central Illinois, particularly areas to the west of I-57.

Residents should also prepare for continued chilly weather as these conditions persist into the early morning hours. Stay vigilant for updates and take necessary precautions to protect your garden and landscaping.
