Quad Cities, IL – Residents in Illinois and Iowa are experiencing dangerously low temperatures as an Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect until noon Tuesday. Wind chills could plunge to between -20°F and -35°F, increasing frostbite risk for those exposed for even brief periods.
According to the National Weather Service, this bitter cold has prompted extended warnings across Rock Island, Moline, Davenport, and other areas along Interstate 80. Wind gusts of up to 30 mph will combine with subzero temperatures to produce extreme cold conditions. Anyone needing to go outside is urged to dress in multiple layers, including a hat and gloves, to protect against frostbite.
Temperatures are expected to remain dangerously cold on Wednesday morning, though wind chills will rise into the single digits by afternoon. Light snow may arrive by late Wednesday evening, with up to one inch of accumulation. Drivers along Interstate 74 and surrounding highways should use caution as reduced visibility and icy patches could develop overnight.
