Quad Cities, IL – Strong winds and dry conditions continue to pose fire risks across Illinois today, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph. Residents are urged to avoid burning and exercise caution with cigarettes and heavy machinery.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Quad Cities, westerly winds of 20-30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph, are expected throughout the day. Combined with dry vegetation, these conditions create an elevated risk of grass fires, especially near I-80 and northwest Illinois.
Sunny and breezy weather continues Wednesday, with highs in the upper 40s and overnight lows near 24°F. Clouds increase Thursday, bringing a 40-80% chance of afternoon rain, which could ease fire concerns. Friday will see highs in the low 40s, with rain possibly mixing with snow by the afternoon.
Looking ahead, temperatures will remain in the 40s through the weekend, with a 50% chance of rain Friday morning and lingering showers Saturday.
Fire officials urge residents to avoid burning and secure loose outdoor items due to strong winds. Stay updated with the latest forecasts and safety alerts.
