Champaign, IL – Frigid conditions persist across central Illinois, with wind chills expected to drop between 10 and 20 degrees below zero overnight. The National Weather Service warns of dangerously cold temperatures through Friday, urging residents to take precautions.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, wind chills as low as -15°F are possible in Knox and Stark counties, where a cold weather advisory remains in effect. Bitterly cold air will grip the region through the end of the week, with below-zero wind chills expected again Thursday night.

Thursday will see highs near 19°F with sunny skies, but the wind chill will remain between -12°F and -2°F. Friday will bring slight relief with a high of 27°F before a gradual warming trend into the weekend. Saturday and Sunday will see highs in the mid-30s and 40s, offering a brief taste of spring.

Residents should dress in layers, limit outdoor exposure, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Those traveling should prepare for icy conditions, especially during the morning hours.
