Chicago, IL – At least four tornadoes touched down in Illinois and Indiana during Friday night’s storms, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
NWS confirmed an EF-0 tornado in Yorkville, another in Bartlett and Hanover Park, and one in Schererville and Merrillville. A stronger EF-1 tornado struck Cedar Lake.
Damage survey teams also found widespread straight-line wind damage in eastern DeKalb County, western and northwestern Kane County, and Elgin. Impacted areas include DeKalb, Sycamore, Maple Park, Virgil, Burlington, Hampshire, and Huntley.
NWS stated that additional brief tornadoes might have occurred within these wind corridors. However, they have not found enough evidence to confirm more tornadoes at this time.
Assessment teams continue reviewing damage and gathering data. More information will be released in the coming days as the investigation progresses.
