Salmon, Idaho – Heavy, wet snow is set to blanket the high mountain passes of eastern Lemhi County beginning at 9 p.m. Sunday, creating hazardous travel conditions and the potential for isolated power outages through 9 a.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Missoula, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for elevations above 6,000 feet, with 2 to 6 inches of accumulation expected—and up to a foot or more above 7,500 feet, including Williams Creek Summit. Key travel corridors such as Highway 93 from Lost Trail Pass to Gibbonsville, Bannock and Lemhi Passes, Highway 28 between Tendoy and Lone Pine, and Williams Creek Summit will see the greatest impact.
Wet, slushy snow may weigh down tree limbs and power lines, leading to sporadic outages and possible tree damage, especially in forested areas. Drivers should prepare for slippery, snow-covered roads, particularly across higher elevations and unimproved routes. Outdoor recreationalists are urged to pack for winter conditions and to monitor for signs of hypothermia.
Advisories remain in effect through Monday morning. Additional alerts may be issued if conditions worsen, and travelers are encouraged to check Idaho 511 for the latest road updates before heading into the mountains.
