Pocatello, ID – A winter storm warning has been issued for the Bear River Range, with heavy snowfall and strong winds expected to create hazardous travel conditions from Thursday morning through early Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Pocatello, the warning will be in effect from 6 a.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. MDT Friday. Snowfall totals between 8 and 16 inches are possible, with winds gusting up to 45 mph. The storm is expected to significantly impact travel, potentially causing road closures and power outages due to falling tree branches.

Residents and travelers are advised to take precautions ahead of the storm. Those who must drive should carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water. The Idaho Department of Transportation recommends checking 511.idaho.gov or calling 511 for up-to-date road conditions before traveling.

The Bear River Range, which includes areas such as Emigration Summit, will experience deteriorating conditions as the storm intensifies. Blowing snow may reduce visibility, making driving particularly treacherous.

Authorities urge residents to prepare for possible disruptions and to stay indoors if travel is not necessary. For updated forecasts and alerts, monitor local news and weather services.
