Boise, Idaho – Unrelenting August heat is building again across southwest Idaho, with temperatures in Boise expected to top 93°F by Saturday afternoon. Hot, dry air and occasional gusty winds will heighten fire danger near the I-84 corridor, especially in grassland areas stretching from Caldwell to Mountain Home.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, calm conditions will persist overnight before west-northwest winds pick up Saturday afternoon, gusting up to 20 mph by evening. That, combined with daytime highs in the 90s and low humidity, could dry out surface fuels quickly—making even small ignition sources a threat. Outdoor burns and sparks from vehicles should be avoided.

The heat trend won’t slow after the weekend. Sunday and Monday will both push near or above 93°F. By Tuesday, highs could spike to 97°F, with little cloud cover or precipitation expected before midweek. A slight chance of thunderstorms Sunday night offers the only brief shift in this dry pattern—but with just 20% odds, most areas will stay dry.

Anyone working or recreating outdoors should stay hydrated, avoid peak afternoon hours, and secure anything that could spark near roadways. Air conditioners and cooling shelters may also be needed for vulnerable populations through early next week.

Warnings and heat advisories could be issued if humidity drops further or gusts increase. Updates are expected daily through Monday.
