Boise, ID – Freezing rain overnight has created hazardous road conditions across the Treasure Valley, leaving commuters facing slick and icy surfaces. Light rain showers are expected to continue into Friday morning, further complicating travel.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Boise, the mix of freezing rain and snow began early Friday morning. Commuters are urged to drive cautiously, particularly on Interstate 84 and Highway 55, where patches of ice may remain until temperatures rise later in the day.

An Air Stagnation Advisory is also in effect until 2 p.m. Friday, with stagnant air trapping pollutants near the ground. Residents with respiratory conditions are advised to limit outdoor activities, as air quality may remain poor. The advisory spans the Treasure Valley, including Boise, Nampa, and Caldwell, as well as parts of western Idaho and southeast Oregon.

Looking ahead, Friday’s high is expected to reach 42°F, with mostly cloudy skies after the rain diminishes. Rain will return late Friday night, with a 90% chance extending into Saturday morning. Saturday’s high will climb to 46°F before transitioning to clearer skies on Sunday, when temperatures drop to a chilly 26°F overnight.

Drivers and outdoor enthusiasts should monitor conditions throughout the weekend, as rain and possible snow showers could impact Monday’s commute. For the latest updates, visit the NWS Boise website.
