Salt Lake City, Utah – Storms brewing Wednesday afternoon could bring hail up to one inch near the Idaho border, raising concerns for residents in northern Utah and southwest Wyoming. While the overall threat remains low, isolated wind gusts and frequent lightning may accompany these scattered storms.
According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather is in place for the region, with the primary threats being small to medium-sized hail and damaging wind gusts. The risk is slightly elevated near the Idaho state line, where isolated hail may reach up to an inch in diameter.
Cities such as Logan, Ogden, and Evanston, Wyoming, fall within the risk zone, along with portions of I-15 and I-80. Outdoor plans and high-elevation travel may be impacted by sudden storm development. NWS officials advise staying weather-aware, especially for those hiking, camping, or commuting in exposed areas Wednesday afternoon.
Though widespread severe weather isn’t expected, conditions could change quickly. More updates may follow as storms develop Wednesday.
