Louisville, KY – The calm weather in Kentucky today will soon give way to a powerful winter storm set to hit Sunday. The National Weather Service warns that the storm could bring heavy snow, freezing rain, and hazardous travel conditions along major roads, including I-64.
According to the US National Weather Service Louisville, light snow showers are expected Friday morning, but skies will clear later in the day. Highs on Friday will reach the low 40s before temperatures plummet to the teens overnight, setting the stage for a bitterly cold weekend.
Saturday will be chilly but dry, with highs in the low 30s. Conditions will deteriorate Saturday night as snow showers develop after midnight. By Sunday, the storm is forecast to intensify, bringing snow, sleet, and freezing rain across the region. Heavy accumulations are possible, particularly north of I-64, where snow could reach several inches.
Travel disruptions are likely, especially Sunday night into Monday. Residents are urged to monitor forecasts and prepare for potential delays. Emergency officials advise stocking up on essentials and limiting travel during the storm’s peak.
After the storm subsides Monday, conditions will remain cold, with highs struggling to exceed freezing. Another system could bring light snow later next week.
