Charleston, WV – A powerful winter storm continues to impact portions of southeast Ohio, northern West Virginia, and surrounding areas, with significant snowfall and ice accumulations expected through early Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, the Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday. The storm is bringing snow accumulations of up to 5 inches and ice accumulations as high as four-tenths of an inch in some regions. Wind gusts up to 40 mph could exacerbate dangerous conditions by causing ice-laden tree limbs and power lines to snap, potentially leading to widespread power outages.
In southeast Ohio and central West Virginia, roads, especially bridges and overpasses, are expected to become slick and hazardous, impacting both morning and evening commutes on Monday. Residents in affected areas, including Parkersburg, Athens, and Clarksburg, are urged to avoid non-essential travel.
The NWS advises anyone traveling to carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water. Updated road conditions can be accessed by dialing 511.
