Wilmington, NC – A Winter Weather Advisory expired at 10 a.m. today as temperatures climbed above freezing, allowing icy conditions west of I-95 to dissipate. Sunshine is expected to return Sunday, but chilly nights remain in the forecast, with lows plunging into the mid-20s.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Saturday will see temperatures reaching 48°F with scattered rain early, followed by clearing skies. Sunday offers even brighter conditions, with highs near 47°F under sunny skies. However, overnight lows will drop to 25°F, leading to frosty mornings.

Travelers along I-95 are urged to exercise caution through Saturday morning, as residual moisture from the recent freezing rain could refreeze overnight. Local roads near Wilmington and surrounding areas may also see patches of black ice until conditions dry completely.

Looking ahead, Monday will bring slightly warmer highs of 51°F and mostly sunny skies. By Tuesday, temperatures will hover near 49°F during the day but drop to 22°F overnight, marking some of the coldest conditions of the week.

Residents should prepare for the cold evenings by protecting outdoor pipes, bringing pets indoors, and dressing in layers when venturing outside. The next chance of precipitation isn’t expected until midweek, with mostly dry and sunny weather dominating the forecast.
