Blowing dust and swaying highway signs greet early risers across southern Colorado this morning, as gusty winds strengthen along the I-25 corridor from Fremont County to Pueblo. The National Weather Service warns that gusts up to 60 mph are possible through Wednesday morning, especially in the Sawatch, Sangre de Cristo, and Rampart Mountains.
These winds could make travel difficult for high-profile vehicles and cause isolated powerline issues or debris across open stretches near La Veta Pass and the Arkansas River Valley. Drivers should reduce speed and use caution in crosswinds, particularly along Highway 50 and I-25 south of Colorado Springs.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, temperatures remain mild through Thursday, with highs in the upper 50s to mid-60s and mostly sunny skies. Lows dip into the low 30s, keeping mornings brisk but manageable. The strong winds will ease gradually late Wednesday, ushering in calmer and warmer conditions through the end of the week.
Long-range models suggest another system could brush the region after December 15, potentially bringing cooler air and mountain snow chances. For now, most of southern and central Colorado will enjoy pleasant December sunshine once the winds pass.
