Blacksburg, VA – Two tornadoes struck Pittsylvania and Bedford counties on Wednesday, as remnants of Hurricane Helena moved through Virginia.
According to the National Weather Service, an EF-2 tornado hit Pittsylvania County at 2:38 p.m., with estimated winds of 118 mph. The tornado traveled 6.85 miles with a maximum width of 225 yards, injuring one person.
Later in the day, a second tornado touched down in Bedford County. The EF-1 storm hit at 4:11 p.m. and brought winds between 105 and 110 mph. The tornado traveled 1.24 miles with a maximum width of 150 yards. No injuries were reported in Bedford County.
