Medford, OR – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Hurricane Force Wind Warning, a Hazardous Seas Warning, and a Gale Watch for coastal waters stretching from Florence, Oregon, to Point St. George, California. The warnings highlight dangerous marine conditions through the week.
According to the NWS, the Hurricane Force Wind Warning remains in effect until 4 a.m. Wednesday, forecasting south winds of 35 to 55 knots with gusts reaching 70 knots. Seas are expected to be mountainous, reaching heights of 29 to 34 feet. Following this, a Hazardous Seas Warning will take effect from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday, with seas of 21 to 26 feet at 14-second intervals.
Looking ahead, a Gale Watch has been issued from Thursday afternoon through late Friday night. South winds could reach 30 to 40 knots with gusts up to 55 knots, alongside seas of 10 to 15 feet.
Mariners are urged to remain in port, alter course, or take precautions to secure vessels as these conditions pose significant risks, including capsizing, vessel damage, and near-zero visibility.
