Huntsville, AL – Strong thunderstorms could roll into northern Alabama by mid-afternoon Wednesday, bringing wind gusts up to 20 mph and soaking showers that may slow travel and outdoor plans across Huntsville and surrounding areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, storms are likely to develop after 3 p.m. Wednesday, followed by more showers and isolated thunder Thursday. Rainfall totals may exceed a quarter inch, especially during peak thunderstorm activity.
South Parkway (U.S. 231) and I-565 drivers should prepare for wet pavement and low visibility from Wednesday afternoon into early Friday. Winds will blow from the southwest at 5 to 10 mph during storms, making highway travel potentially hazardous for high-profile vehicles. Afternoon highs will hit the low 80s, but increased humidity and sporadic lightning could disrupt outdoor work and school dismissal times.
By Thursday, a mix of showers and storms is likely throughout the day, with another round possible after 10 p.m. That system will clear out by early Friday, giving way to drier conditions and partial sunshine.
