Galveston, TX – A dense fog advisory is in effect for parts of the Texas Gulf Coast until 10 a.m. CDT Friday, reducing visibility to a quarter-mile or less and creating hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Houston/Galveston, the advisory covers Bolivar Peninsula, Brazoria Islands, Galveston Island, and Matagorda Islands. Dense fog has been reported in the coastal waters around Galveston and is expected to spread inland through the night. While increasing winds after midnight may help break up some of the sea fog, isolated patches of dense fog are expected to persist through the morning, particularly between High Island and Freeport.
Drivers are urged to use caution, slow down, and keep headlights on while maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles. The fog may also impact marine navigation, with visibility dropping to as low as one nautical mile in the nearshore waters of Matagorda Bay and Galveston Bay. Mariners are advised to use proper fog signals, keep all navigation lights on, and rely on radar and compass navigation when necessary.
Conditions are expected to improve by late Friday morning as winds increase and fog begins to dissipate. For updated forecasts and travel alerts, residents are encouraged to monitor the NWS and local authorities.
