Portland, OR – Oregon and Southwest Washington residents are preparing for severe weather, as the National Weather Service (NWS) issued high wind warnings and flood alerts through Wednesday. High winds and heavy rainfall are forecasted to impact the region, raising concerns over power outages and urban flooding.
According to the NWS, a High Wind Warning will take effect from 8 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday for the central and northern Oregon coasts, as well as Southwest Washington. Winds of 30-40 mph are expected, with gusts reaching up to 60 mph. Strong gusts may knock down unsecured objects, trees, and branches, potentially causing power outages.
A Wind Advisory is also in place for the Willamette Valley and lowlands of Clark County, Washington, with gusts of up to 45 mph expected. The forecasted rainfall, combined with debris-clogged drains, increases the risk of urban flooding in several areas.
NWS urges residents to secure loose items and clear debris from gutters to prevent flooding. With potentially damaging winds and heavy rain, emergency preparations are advised to minimize disruption.
