Charleston, WV – A winter storm is sweeping across Northwest Pocahontas, Southeast Randolph, and Southeast Webster counties, dropping heavy snow and creating dangerous travel conditions.
The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning that remains in effect until noon Thursday. Between 4 and 6 inches of additional snowfall is expected overnight. Winds are gusting up to 45 mph, increasing the risk of fallen tree branches and power outages.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm began intensifying Wednesday evening and is expected to disrupt Thursday morning commutes. Slick roads and reduced visibility will make travel hazardous across the region.
Local authorities recommend staying indoors unless absolutely necessary. If travel is unavoidable, drivers should prepare for emergencies by keeping a flashlight, food, and water in their vehicles.
The combination of heavy snow and strong winds may also lead to isolated power outages. Residents are encouraged to check local updates for restoration timelines and to avoid downed power lines.
The latest road conditions can be obtained by dialing 511, and further weather updates are available on the National Weather Service’s website and social media platforms.
Stay cautious, and plan ahead for delays or disruptions caused by the storm.
