Bennington, VT – A major winter storm is set to impact Vermont and parts of upstate New York beginning early Thursday. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Winter Storm Warning for Bennington and Western Windham counties, effective from 4 a.m. Thursday to 1 a.m. Friday. Areas at elevations over 1,000 feet could see up to 12 inches of snow, with higher amounts possible in some locations.

The warning extends to Northern Warren, Hamilton, and Northern Herkimer counties in New York, where snowfall is expected to total 5 to 10 inches. According to the NWS, travel conditions will likely be hazardous, with significant disruptions anticipated during Thanksgiving.

Motorists are advised to carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water. Road condition updates are available by dialing 511. Officials urge residents to plan ahead and limit travel if possible.
