Pocatello, ID – Central Idaho residents are bracing for significant snowfall as a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through Friday morning. The warning, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pocatello, forecasts heavy snow and challenging travel conditions across higher elevations.
According to the NWS, the warning spans the Sawtooth/Stanley Basin, Sun Valley Region, and Big Lost Highlands/Copper Basin. Snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet are expected above 8,000 feet, accompanied by gusty winds that may cause blowing and drifting snow. Hazardous conditions could impact morning and evening commutes through Friday.
The warning began at 5 a.m. Wednesday and will continue until 5 a.m. Friday. Travelers are advised to carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water, and to check road conditions by calling 511.
Residents in affected areas are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for the possibility of power outages and limited visibility.
