Wilmington, NC – A flash flood watch is in effect tonight for southeast North Carolina as a low-pressure system offshore is expected to bring heavy rain and potential flooding. Coastal counties, including Horry, Marion, and Dillon, should prepare for torrential rain and possible flash floods through Monday.
According to the National Weather Service, the system may acquire tropical characteristics as it nears the coast, bringing several inches of rain. A flood watch is currently in place, with local rivers and low-lying areas at high risk. Rainfall totals between 1.5 and 2.5 inches are forecast, with higher amounts likely in some areas. Residents are urged to stay updated on weather alerts and avoid driving through flooded roads.
With rainfall continuing into Monday, localized flooding is possible, particularly near Wilmington and Myrtle Beach.
