Buffalo, NY – A lake effect snow warning remains in effect for western New York until 4 a.m. Thursday. Heavy snowfall is expected to bring an additional 4 to 8 inches of snow to the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the areas most affected include Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and southern Erie counties. Communities in the Boston Hills, the ridges of western Wyoming County, and the Chautauqua Ridge will see the highest accumulations. Snowfall is expected to vary dramatically across the region, with some areas experiencing heavy snow bands and others remaining relatively dry.

Travel conditions will be hazardous through Wednesday evening and into Thursday morning. Poor visibility and snow-covered roads will make driving dangerous. Motorists should prepare for slow travel and potential delays, especially during the evening commute. The NWS warns of rapid changes in weather conditions, with visibility dropping suddenly within snow bands.

Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to have emergency supplies on hand. Snowfall rates could reach one to two inches per hour in the most persistent bands. If travel is unavoidable, drivers should carry a winter emergency kit, including blankets, food, and water.

The lake effect snow is expected to ease by early Thursday morning as conditions stabilize. However, cleanup efforts may continue into the weekend due to the accumulation and icy conditions. Stay updated on weather alerts and road closures to remain safe during the storm.
