Ashtabula, OH – Strong winds and heavy blowing snow are wreaking havoc across northeastern Ohio and western New York, with lake effect snow warnings remaining in effect through the weekend. Northeastern Ohio has already seen up to 9 inches of snow, while several feet are still expected to fall in parts of western New York.
The National Weather Service reports that areas like Chautauqua, Erie, and Wyoming counties in New York will see the heaviest snow bands, with accumulations of 2 to 4 feet possible by Monday evening. In Ohio, snowfall is expected to ease by late Saturday morning, but blowing snow will continue to make travel hazardous, especially along major routes like I-90 and Route 20.
Road conditions across both regions remain treacherous, with visibility dropping to near zero at times. Officials are urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to prepare for potential delays or disruptions. The Ohio Department of Transportation and New York State Department of Transportation advise motorists to monitor road updates and travel advisories before heading out.
Cold temperatures and gusty winds will persist throughout the weekend, adding to the challenges. Residents are encouraged to stay indoors, stock up on supplies, and follow local weather updates.
