Morristown, TN – Residents across East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and portions of Southwest North Carolina should prepare for hazardous weather conditions beginning tonight, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Strong, gusty winds and plummeting wind chills are expected to impact the region through Thanksgiving and the upcoming holiday weekend.
The NWS has issued a Wind Advisory for the Smoky Mountains and surrounding areas starting tonight, with sustained southerly winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts reaching up to 45 mph. These conditions are expected to persist through mid-morning Thursday. Residents in affected areas are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and exercise caution when driving high-profile vehicles.
Following the cold front’s passage on Thanksgiving Day, a significant drop in temperatures will bring colder air across the region. Wind chills in higher elevations are forecast to plummet into the single digits over the weekend, creating potentially dangerous conditions for outdoor activities.
