Northeast Missouri is bracing for a significant storm system set to impact the region late Thursday into Friday morning. Residents along US 36 should be prepared for heavy rainfall and the possibility of severe weather between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. The National Weather Service (NWS) in St. Louis forecasts an 80-90% chance of rain, with the primary hazard being hail.

Motorists are advised to avoid traveling along US 36 overnight, as hazardous road conditions, including localized flooding, could develop. According to the NWS, some storms could reach severe levels, bringing damaging hail and gusty winds.

The storm is part of a cold front that will push through the area, bringing much cooler temperatures by Friday. The cold front will also lessen the risk of severe weather by the weekend, providing clearer and safer conditions. Residents should stay updated by monitoring local weather reports and take steps to protect vehicles and outdoor items from potential hail damage.
